Handmade Market first began life as a handicraft market of just 35 stalls in 2008, after founder Julie Nichols saw the need to host a shopping experience filled with beautiful handmade wares. The Market has since gone from strength to strength, held quarterly at the National Convention Centre, Canberra and attracting over 10,000 visitors each market.
Now showcasing over 150 local and interstate designers, Handmade Market is still growing. With the addition of live entertainment and Handmade Market has become a Canberra institution and an unmissable destination for visitors to Canberra.

Handmade Market is a quarterly shopping experience held at the National Convention Centre, Canberra.
Held every March, June, September and December, Handmade Market attracts 10,000 people to its mass of beautiful stalls, held in the spacious rooms of the National Convention Centre, Canberra .
The market showcases mostly local handmade talent but also an increasing amount of interstate designers, keen to become part of the Handmade phenomenon.
Market stallholders feature gorgeous, high quality handcrafted items in varying genre from homewares to children’s clothing, toys, jewellery, papergoods, textiles, decorative items and much more.
Handmade Market has become the perfect day out with the family – with live entertainment and an enormous range of local and interstate wine, produce and gourmet goodness. The Market also attracts an impressive amount of tourists and interstate visitors.
The remaining market dates for 2011 fall on Saturday October 1 and Sunday October 2 and Saturday December 17.

Shop Handmade Canberra opened in April 2010 to much acclaim and has experienced a phenomenal public reaction, with sales targets exceeding all expectations each and every month.
A natural extension to Handmade Market, Shop was created to cater for the plethora of local and interstate handmade talent who struggle to find a retail setting, and wish to sell their wares year-round. Over 120 local and interstate designers are showcased in Shop’s dreamy interior. Designers rent a space in the shop over a 2 or 3 month period, and 100 per cent of all profit goes directly to the designer. Handmade Canberra prides itself on supporting local talent in this way.

Designers rent a space in Shop and receive 100 per cent of all profit from sales.

Handmade Press started innocently enough in April 2010 when local author Tania McCartney casually mentioned to Julie Nichols – ‘let’s write a book’. Shortly thereafter, an Australia-wide callout resulted in over 300 applications to become part of Handmade Canberra’s first ever publication.
Handmade living, which will be released at the 4 December Handmade Christmas Market, showcases Australian handmade talent at its best. With over 70 gorgeous projects and inspirational ideas, this stunning publication is like nothing ever published in Australia before. Handmade Canberra is thrilled to continue its support for Australian designers by adding this amazing book to its repertoire, and is already planning an annual publication.

The book has been compiled and written by author Tania McCartney, in conjunction with handmade founder Julie Nichols and Brisbane illustrator Tina Snerling.
Running alongside the enormous success of Handmade Market and Shop Handmade Canberra, handmade living. will be yet another feather in the Handmade cap – continuing to showcase Canberran and Australian artistic and creative talent at its best. Designers featured in the book frequently appear at Handmade Market and in Shop Handmade Canberra, and we’re also delighted to feature several interstate designers.
handmade living. was released on 4 December 2010 at the Handmade Christmas market, Kamberra Wine Company, Lyneham. This market will also feature a special section of stalls focusing on designers featured in the book.
On Friday 10 December, the handmade living. launch celebration will take place at Shop Handmade, 20 Allara Street, Canberra City. Details will be forthcoming.
